Day 1 in San Diego

We woke up a bit late having arrived in the middle of the night, but the mild weather and hints of sun made us got out quite fast. We drove along the beach and suddenly remembered that we needed to change the GPS and got back to the hotel to get the papers. I called the customer service number and what a service!! French people, take note!!! Friendly, smiling (I could hear her!!) and helpful girl answering and she told us to go next to the airport, so we set off - and missed the exit!! But we got a free trip over the bridge to Coronado Island and back!! :o)
Trusting my never failing geographic memory, we found Dollars car rental shop and were told that we had put the charger in the wrong outlet!!! We'd put it in the cigar lighter, but since this was a non-smoker car, it had been deactivated??!!! We plugged it in in between the seats and it started working again... weird...

Cédric wanted to go to Hillcrest for some 2nd hand shops and we drove to Balboa Park, downtown on 4th and 5th Avenue and Gaslamp district and all the way up again to Hillcrest. We parked quite high up and when we got out of the car I noticed there was this Whole Foods Market – thingy right next to us. I'd heard about these markets and said we should go in, and when we did... HEAVEN!! All this fruit and vegetables and organic this-and-that, bread, salad bar (by the pound), chocolate store, bakery.... Oh My God!!! Why do we not have this in France???!!! OK, it's expensive, but still!! We went nuts buying food and drinks – it cost us $80, but it was sooo worth it!! We made these huge salads from the cold and hot salad bar, bran honey muffins, blueberry muffins, scones, bagels, bread, ham and even Norwegian Jarlsberg cheese!! And the juices were just to die for... mine was with apple, mango, spirulina, algae, garlic, pineapple, spinach and other greens and it tasted only like fruit!! Yummy...

Thinking we were only gonna spend an hour in Hillcrest, we had to go back and put more money on the meter, and just when we had finished, this guy strolling by told us it was free because of Veterans Day!!! So I was right – it wasn't on November 8th like they had told us I SF!! But we had lost the money anyways...
We went downtown to Westfield Plaza for some shopping and when we came back to the car, the GPS was dead – again!!! So this time we changed it – it was supposed to be the newest model, but the older one we got was so much better; it had the names of the areas and everything!! We headed back to LaJolla to check out surfing lessons.... so we're going to have a surfing lesson in the morning!!! The water is appx. 16° and the lesson lasts an hour!!! I'm gonna die...
