Day 3 in New York

So, we started the day with the movie “New Moon”; not bad at all!! A bit slow at times, but in the same style as the first “Twilight”. Lots of hunky youngters... ;o)

Then we went East to Greenwich and East Village, very nice places, more human without the huge sky scrapers. There was this fence with “Tiles for America” with tiles painted and decorated in memory of 9/11 - very different way of doing it..

Arriving at some square, we made more squirrel friends – they're soooo cute!! They'll come right up to you and snatch food from your hand!! Greenwich Village is more European in style and it reminded us about both London and Copenhagen; lots of second-hand and smoke shops!! LOL!!
We were initially looking for a thrift store in East Village that Cédric wanted to see, but got a little lost and passed through SoHo, which was exactly like London: beautiful old buildings and fancy shops!! When we finally arrived at destination in the poorer quarters , it was a girls' store!!! And it smelled like someone died in there...yuch!! I hate second hand stores!! We had a glance and left for Chinatown.

It was nothing like Chinatown in San Francisco, waaay cleaner and it seemed more old-fashioned maybe because of the beautiful buildings and broader streets..

The funny thing was that Chinatown had eaten its way into Little Italy – you could practically see them fighting about the sides of the street!! Little Italy was much smaller than I imagined, but very charming – just what you see in the movies!! And talking about movies, there was one being filmed there!! We saw this blinding light and it was a lamp lighting up the whole street! I wonder which movie it was...

On our way back to Chelsea, we stopped at Union Square for a bit of shopping and Cédric got a bracelet to come and get his 50 cent CD signed later that evening. We went home, took a nap and he went back to stand in a looong line to meet him, and he finally got his picture with the Man!!! Soooo cool!!!

We went out for drinks at Crimson (I think??) close to Union Square and although it was expensive (a $60 cover charge, no drinks included) and almost empty when we arrived, it turned out quite well after a while; the music was great (most French DJs suck compared to these guys!!) and people were dancing. The crowd was quite young, but classy, so we didn't get that “I just got legal and can drink my brains out” impression.

Having planned to go early the next day to go to Liberty and Ellis Island, we left at around 1.30a.m, and stopped for hot dogs and grilled meat spears.... typical late nite snack, but hey, we didn't have dinner!!
